  • Question

  • Hi,

    I've clean installlation Project Server 2013 on SharePoint 2013 and I'm facing strange behaviour when createing project site, sometime site is created with: 'PROJECTSITE#0' and sometime 'PWS#0'. The PROJECTSITE#0 is fine but PWS#0 has SP2010 layout.

    This problem occurs with ootb enterprise project and custom project template.

  • What are your steps for creating?

    Are you doing this with powershell or menus.  Provide more details for either case.

  • Projects are created with website, new -> enterprise project -> in new project form I provide only a name for project and click save.

    Also I've checked ULS, and there are no errors during site creation, just wrong web template picked.

  • Hello,

    Was this a clean Project Server 2013 on servers that never had SharePoint / Project Server 2010 installed before?

  • Hi Paul,

    Project Server 2013 was installed on clean SP2013. So this is also odd that PWS#0 has 2010 layout.

    At first i thought that this might be standard behaviour, because there was only SP1 installed, but recently I've installed March CU KB4018301, and nothing changed, still project sites are created with different templates.

    Mybe there is something wrong with web template files, "microsoft shared\Web Server Extensions\15\TEMPLATE\1045"

    in webtemppwa.xml i have

    <Template Name="PWS" SetupPath="SiteTemplates\PWS" ID="6215">

    and in webtempsps.xml

    <Template Name="PROJECTSITE" ID="6115">

    For me it looks like, PWS#0 is a fallback when PROJECTSITE#0 can't be created, but no additional information is loged so i can't tell.

    Does Project Srv have any separate log files?

  • That's strange, I haven't seen or heard of this issue before. Project Server will log in the SharePoint ULS logs. Unless anyone come ups with anyother suggestions, this might be one for a Microsoft support ticket.

    Sorry that I couldn't help.

  • Before calling Microsoft, I would delete the project server instance and the web application and then rebuild project server service and web application.  Sometimes, there are things you missed or ignore in the first setup and perhaps the second round it will go away.

    Also, it usually a good idea to have a ROOT site setup on web application.  You didn't mention it, but as a SharePoint best practice all web application should have a ROOT site.

    Or you could do Paul suggest and work thru issue with Microsoft.
