Outlook 2016... Not asking for password RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi.

I'm having the following issue with Outlook 2016 in Windows 10:

Outlook's "Add Account" dialogue changed the other day... Used to look like this:

    http://pop2imap.com/images/gmail_outlook_2013_image6.png

    Now I get this:

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/msoffice_outlook-mso_win10/cannot-add-gmail-account-to-outlook-anymore/0fe79190-5556-4137-888a-1438fa6f9fe3

Then I get an error like this:

    https://gxcuf89792.i.lithium.com/t5/image/serverpage/image-id/2904i4C3E17909261C227/image-size/large?v=1.0&px=999

Outlook doesn't ask for my password.

I unsuccessfully tried adding 3 or 4 other emails. It asks for a password when trying to add a new account for my juno email, but it still doesn't work.

I tried "Allow less secure apps" and 2-factor authentication / app password.  No joy.

    Any ideas?

  • Hi.

I rolled back to the previous build, and now I get the old dialog and am able to add an account.

The add account wizard was added on July 28, 2017 according to this page:

    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/office/mt465751

This is how I rolled back:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2770432/how-to-revert-to-an-earlier-version-of-office-2013-or-office-2016-clic

    Works for now...

  • Hi,

This is a new feature introduced in Version 1706 (Build 8229.2073) which provided a new wizard when setting up new accounts that requires fewer manual steps. In theory, it should prompt for password when adding an internet account. See:

Which email account are you trying to add into your Outlook? Could you provide the detailed steps you used? It would be better if you could provide some screenshots.

Did you get any error message when it failed to add your email account in to Outlook?

    Regards,

    Steve Fan

  • Steve,

Thanks for your reply.  I'm trying to add a gmail.

I can't post images.  Do I need to do something to verify my account?  I verified email alerts.

    Here's some screenshots

Full disclosure... I have Microsoft Office 97 installed, but not Outlook 97.  I also have Microsoft Office 365 trial installed.

    Thanks.
