Remote desktop security problem RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am trying to run MSCONFIG on an winxp professional machine, remotely.  I am trying to disable the CITRIX program, to keep it from running during startup. However, due to the desktop security I unable to do this. Is there a work around for this?

  • Hi Sha-Sam,

Microsoft has article on disabling startup items.

So, you can connect remote computer registry and modify. To connect to remote computer using registry, Start>Run>regedit>File>Connect Network registry

    • <samp>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run</samp>
    • <samp>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce</samp>

alternatively, you can also go to startup folder in his login based on your operating system & remove the shortcut.

    Windows XP: c:\documents and settings\all users\startmenu\programs\startup

    Windows 7: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

If it is based on user, You may have to visit HKEY_Users and locate specific user & respective user startup folder.
