Empty deleted items from all mailboxes on exchange RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I'm planning to migrate all mailboxes to a new mailbox store to freeup disk space on the server.

To speed up the process, is there an automated way I can quickly empty all deleted items from all mailboxes directly from the exchange box prior to migration?

Also, are there any other recommendations to recover disk space before initiating the mailbox move?

    thks

  • What version, service pack, update rollup or cumulative update of Exchange?

  • Hi uklogistics,

To empty all deleted items from all mailboxes, we can try using the following command via EMS:

Get-mailbox -ResultSize Unlimited |Export-mailbox -DeleteContent -IncludeFolders "\deleted items"
Although it is not recommended as a best practice, we can configure Exchange to save disk space by enabling circular logging. Circular logging allows Exchange to overwrite transaction log files after the data that the log files contain has been committed to the database. However, we must note that if circular logging is enabled, you can recover data only up until the last full backup. More details see : Circular Logging.

  • You can probably do that with Messaging Records Management.
