outlook 2011 support for exchange archives RRS feed

  • Question

  • we have an increasing number of outlook for mac 2011 clients in our environment for which we're having to remove our retention & compliance policies. the biggest problem is that apparent lack of support in 2011 for exchange 2010 enterprise personal archives. does anybody know if the mac client will ever be able to connect to an online archive, and/or why it's currently not possible?

Outlook 2011 for Mac (formerly known as Entourage) and previous versions of the Mac client do not include support for accessing the online archive mailbox. However the Mac Business group is looking at supporting this with a future update but there's no confirmation or time line though.

Exchange 2010 SP2 will not cause Outlook 2011 to show the Personal Archive.  Implementation of this feature is up to the Outlook 2011 folks, not Exchange Team.

  • Any updates on whether this archive feature might be enabled in Outlook 2011?

  • Looks like the status with the Outlook 2011 team is the same, no timeline confirmed. I'm also patiently waiting for this feature as we are starting to deploy more Mac clients. Our workaround so far has been a Parallels 7 install using Outlook 2010 as the default mail client. This has actually been preferred by our users since Outlook 2011 for Mac has a bit of a delay in receiving email where as Outlook 2010 for Windows is immediate.

  • Hopefully they come up with something as i am in the same situation as the thread starter.  I do not want to have to un-do the Exchange Archives becuase the user wants to use a Mac.

  • I asked my TAM about three weeks ago who in turn reached out the the product team and told me that it probably might not be in this version but maybe the next.  Nothing is confirmed though.

  • I've written one in AppleScript to emulate the Auto Archive feature of Outlook for Windows. You can read more details and download it here http://blog.7thdomain.com/2012/09/03/auto-archive-script-for-outlook-mac-2011/

The Auto Archive feature is not what this thread is about. The Office 2011 for Mac client cannot access online personal archives on Exchange.

  • Any update on this?  I'm also in the same situation, large Mac environment with no way to centrally manage archives.

  • Same situation here, we start using Exchange archiving and have quite a big user base using macs at our university.
