  • Hey Oleg -

On this article under 'Where is your data currently located,' this tool only supports SP 2013 on-prem.  I'd imagine at some point Microsoft will support in the SPMT to migrate from SP 2016 on-prem.

For now, you would either need to look at migrating using the OneDrive Sync Client.  If you want a more systematic approach and want to preserve version history and metadata, you would want to look at using PowerShell.

  • Dear Kurt

    Thanks for quick answer.

I will check OneDrive migration till we wait for support of 2016 server. Is just some 200-500Mb libraries, and we don't need any metadata or versions.

Can you point to some additional information about it?

    Thanks a lot!

While this is extremely late for you: I have found you can bypass the 'unsupported' message by adding a registry key:

    Multistring: SupportedSPVersions

This is NOT supported by Microsoft, however, has worked fine for the files I needed to migrate.

I am adding this answer for anyone else who searches for "The SharePoint version is not supported"

  • Thank you David and Good find.  You have to create the Key and add the Multistring but it certainly works.
