What does Variable.Value(identifier as text) do? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

    Variable.Value(identifier as text) has me curious. :-) Documentation doesn't provide a description for it.

    The method's signature made me wonder if it accepts a string variable name and returned its value--something like:

    let
        SomeValue = "a",
        Result = Variable.Value("SomeValue")
    in
        Result

    However, the above returns an expression error: "The variable 'SomeValue' could not be found." The same error is raised when I try to use Variable.Value to reference a top-level variable (i.e. a variable defined in #shared) .

    Any clues what this method does?

    Thanks,
    Ben
