Problem with Aspect Ratio on Laptop with widescreen RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello there,

I have a Problem with the widescreen and aspect ratio:

    -Desktop resolution is 1280x800
-full screen resolution of Applications be it TV, Video or a Game I want to view at 1024x768 WITH black bars left & right
-everytime everything is stretched in width

When I first change the desktop resolution to 1024x768 also the desktop itself is stretched to fit the hole display :/

In XP (prior OS to w7) I had in the ATI Catalyst control center the option to "keep aspect ratio" so I had my black bars and everything looked fine. Now I cant even install old XP Drivers. The Vista drivers install properly but I get no catalyst control center!
I tried the NEWEST drivers from my manufacturer (Fujitsu-siemens from late 2006...), I tried ati (amd) drivers 9.2 but didnt work. I even tried the xp omegadrivers with no success.

    15,4" Laptop
    core duo 1,66Ghz
    2gb ram
    ATI x1400 mobility

The problem at all is that there are not really any drivers for the x1400. The ones from windows 7 work fine but I want to keep the ratio :/ TV looks screwed up when everyone looks like a fat guy :P
