IAS to NPS RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi guys,

We are running IAS on a Windows 2003 and would like to migrate to a new 2016 server with NPS.  Are there any particular settings we should be aware of or services to make the transition smoothly?

We are looking to reuse existing IP/hostname of the 2003 machine.

We are looking to support VPN/Radius authentication.

    Thanks,

    TT.

  • Hi,

Don't worry, The destination server can use the same host name and IP address and NPS server supports VPN/Radius authentication.

Please reference below articles to operate the migration.

  • Can I install NPS on the new server and have the IAS (currently the production machine) be online at the same time?

I want to test export and import process of the configuration file.  Having both machines up at the same will not cause any issue?

    Thanks,

    TT

  • Hi,

NO, when the old server is running, the new server can't use the same hostname and IP address.

You need to stop the old server before adding the new server, so there will be a period of downtime.

  • We did a quick export and import (ias.tx) while the new server was offline (network disable).

On the NPS, we noticed the section with Radius Client has a different number of masked characters (shared secret).  Do we need to reenter the shared key?

  • Hi,

The shared secret key on NPS server and radius clients should be the same.
