Hyper-V and vCPU RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hey,

so i have 3 host cluster that have 28 cores and 56 logical each.

now my question is for CPU allocation for the VMs i have running can i assign up to 56 processors to the vms or can i go over that and assign more.. i read somewhere about some ratio and over commit but didn't really understand it.

  • You can assign at least 56 vCPU. But depending on real CPU load pCPU to vCPU ratio can be higher. For example, I assign 4vCPU per 1pCPU (physical cores, threads are not counted) for infrastructure VMs (AD, PrintServer, FileServer, etc). For VDI enviroment the ratio can vary from 1:8 to 1:12.

CPU oversubscribtion is covered here - https://www.altaro.com/hyper-v/hyper-v-virtual-cpus-explained/
