What do you see when you go to Central Admin > Operations > Services on Server > Office SharePoint Server Search.
Is it started or stuck on starting or stopping.
> If so open up Services.msc. Look for Office search. Disable it and reboot the searver.
> In command prompt from the following location c:\program files\common files\microsoft shared\web server extensions\12\bin and run the following command
stsadm -o osearch -action stop
> Confirm that the office search is stopped in the Services on Server
> Now start the Office search service again. Assign indexer to SSP and content DB’s.
> See now what happens when you go to the Search Administration and Search Settings page. If you don't see any errors you can initiate the full crawl.
