searching mails which has been sent using MS Outlook's " Resend this Mail " utility.

    Question

  • Dear All,

Good Day, Hope you all are doing well.

Recently one of our client who is using Symantec Spam Services were reporting that certain mails sent from our sides are getting listed as SPAM. After evaluation we found that the mails which got listed as spam was sent using "Resend this Mail"in MS Outlook.

In outlook if you use "Resend This Mail"option for mails which has been received in your inbox from other email account, MS Outlook tags that message as "On behalf of" information to certify that the mail was not been sent from original sender.

But my question is how to search those mails which has been sent using "Resend This Mail" utility for mails which has been received in Inbox from same email account(Mails  which has marked CC to self Account).

In outlook if mail resent by original sender could not be identify whether the mail was newly drafted or resent using "Resend this Message" option.

    Thanks and Regards

    Ashish Sakpal.

    >> Or is there any option where we can disable "Resent This Message" option from outlook.

To disable the "Resend This Message" button in Outlook, we can use the 3165 Control ID with the "Disable command bar buttons and menu items" GP setting under User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Microsoft Outlook 2016\Disable Items in User Interface\Custom.

See the following article if you don't know how to use the Control IDs:

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi Ashish Sakpal,

"Resend This Message" option is used to create a message with the same recipient list, subject, and body, it will by default use the original sender's email as the From address. If you have send on behalf of permission to the original sender, it will display "On behalf of" information on the received email. You can manually change the From address to your own email address thus the email will be send out using your default account without showing the "On behalf of" information.

In addition, there is no method can be used to filter out these resend messages in Outlook. If you want to filter out emails labelled with "On behalf of", you can achieve it via:

  • Hi Steve,

Thank you so much for your reply.

This makes clears that if Inbox Mail tries to resend using "Resend This Message" option by manually changing from address will not able to filter out.

Reason for this post is, Mails send from our side using Outlook's "Resend This Message" options gets listed in recipient's Symantec  SPAM DB and verdict for the same is "Unscannable due to malformed MIME". As per Symantec's engineer the sender are not following RFCs and which get listed in SPAM.

Is there any chances that we can get these details from "Mail Header" removed from recipient's mail client.

Or is there any option where we can disable "Resent This Message" option from outlook.

    Thanks and Regards

    Ashish Sakpal.
