I have Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center, and installed on OCZ Agility 3 SSD with last firmware.

I did the following to create enable creating dump file.

    1. Control Panel > System and Security > System. Click Advanced system settings. Under Startup and Recovery, click Settings.

    2. Under Write Debugging Information, selected Small memory dump 256 kb and Location: %SystemRoot%\Memory.dmp

But still windows doesn't create it after got a few blue screen.

Can anyone tell me what is more I should do to get dump file after blue screen?

Tried to post with picture, but got this error on forum.

  • Milan25,

This Microsoft Answers thread provides several solutions for the issue you’re experiencing.  For example, in order for dmp files to be produced:

    - Page file must be on OS drive
    - Page file base allocation size must be > than installed physical RAM
    - Windows Error Reporting (WER) system service should be set to MANUAL
    - Set page file to system managed on the OS drive
    - Set system crash/recovery options to "Kernel Memory Dump"
    - User account control must be running.
    - Sometimes SSD drives with older firmware do not create DMPS (update firmware)

    Hope this helps!

For DMPS to be created you need

For dumps to be produced. . .

    ▪ Page file must be on OS drive
*Page file base allocation size must be > than installed physical RAM
*Windows Error Reporting (WER) system service should be set to MANUAL
*Set page file to system managed on the OS drive
*Set system crash/recovery options to "kernel Memory Dump"
*User account control must be running.
    * Sometimes SSD drives with older firmware do not create DMPS (update firmware)

*Cleaner applications like Ccleaner delete DMP files so dont run them until you are fixed.

If you are being told you cant post a link, or embed a picture (or any other restriction) you just need to post to this thread saying your account has not been validated
Look for the verify your account thread that is stuck to the top of the page.

  • Hi,

    Check this value:

     Value Name: CrashDumpEnabled

     Data Type: REG_DWORD

     Data: 0|1 (Disabled|Enabled)

  • There is a 3rd party software to let you view the bsod files. Just google blue screen view to find it. This tool is much more simple to configure and it will list the history of all blue screen events on your system.

A-he is not generating DMP files

B-Blue screen view and their ilk are wrong as often as they are right and should not be trusted.

  • I have not had that experience. But I will defer to your expertise and be a bit more critical in the future, thank you for the information.
