need for projects center URL with suffix RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Our goal consist in displaying a form or a web page, with a button or an image, with an hyperlink to a filtered view of the projects center (for instance gant view of all projects in a certain area)

We noticed that filters didn't modify the URL. Could we set a suffix in the url that contain a filter setting ?

  • David,

As you have observed, the filters apply only to the grid and not come over as a url string.

As far as I know, there is no way to bring this into a URL.

May be you could consider developing some reports that give you want you want and then you could set defaults for the filters?

  • If you need the gantt view, then this is difficult, and I think you would be limted to different project centre views pre-configured with the filter already defined in the view.  If you don't need the gantt chart, then I would use Excel Services with slicers.

  • If you do need a Gantt view, you can do this with Excel Services as well. After all, a Gantt is nothing more than a stacked bar chart where the first series fill is nothing.

This article is an oldie but works with data from Project Server via an Office Data Connection. http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel-help/create-a-gantt-chart-in-excel-HA001034605.aspx This version allows you to show progress on tasks, which is why I like this version best.

Another version updated for Excel 2007 is here: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel-help/present-your-data-in-a-gantt-chart-in-excel-HA010238253.aspx This example doesn't do the progress aspect but the instructions better match the UI you have.

I've used a version of these techniques to do a standard milestone timeline view across Projects.

    Hope this helps!
