Upgrading RAID Controller - Must I Reinstall Windows?

  • I'm upgrading my RAID controller and am wondering if this will necessitate a reinstall of Windows 10?

Right now, my primary drive is a pair of Samsung SSDs in a RAID 1 configuration, using the RSTe RAID option on an Asus P9X79 LE motherboard. Works great, but I need more fast, fault-tolerant storage and the mobo is limited to just two 6 Gb/s SATA ports, so....

I'm upgrading to RAID 5, using an Adaptec 8805 controller plugged into the same mobo and an additional SSD.

Will this fly straight after a backup/restore from Acronis 2017? Any special options (e.g., image backup vs. file backup) I should choose?

    Any advice is appreciated.

  • Hi,

Due to limited condition, we can’t test for you.

In my opinion, I think that you need to reinstall system after upgrading RAID controller and RAID level.

For Acronis 2017, I am not familiar with backup tool, but for Windows built-in backup tool, I suggest to choose system image backup.
