  • Hi Iffi (again),

When you create a work resource in PWA (or in MS Project), you can enter an hourly rate and an overtime hourly rate. Labor costs are calculated using the work and this hourly rate.

When editing the resource in MS Project Pro and double clicking on the resource to open the resource information, you can navigate to the cost tab. You'll see that the default rate entered in PWA is in the cost rate table A. You have up to 5 rate tables (A to E), meaning that you can have up to 5 rates per resource. Then in the task usage view for example, you can insert the cost rate table column and switch from A rate (default) to another one. For example a resource might be project manager on a project (rate A) and technical expert on another project (rate B). In this case, you'll use different rates.

Another feature accessible from the resource information "cost" tab in MS project is the effective date. On the 5 rate tables, you can have effective dates, for example by year if you want to manage salary increase.

  • I guess this is an organisational question, no tool related. When a PM starts a new project, he should know who is working for the project with which skills. You could always use the resource notes to map the rate tables with the skills.

    Hope this helps,
