Windows Update and Windows Store RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

We have a number of Windows 10 devices that are being used for initial deployment testing. In ou standard Win7 build we have access to microsoft update disabled and updates are deployed by SCCM. It looks like this policy is applying to our Win10 machines as well (which is expected) but it looks like it is also disabling downloads from the windows store!

The users can access the store and browse for apps, just not downloading anything.

Has anyone had similar issues or a workaround for this?

  • Hi all,

Thanks for the info, this is not just about updating apps but also downloading them as well. having done some poking about it appears that if you have DisableWindowsUpdateAccess set in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate then you are unable to download anything from the windows store.

I'm going to take a look at the Windows Store for Business but I'm not sure that will actually make a difference as I believe that is just a subset of the normal Store. I've found policy settings to specifically block access to the Store but nothing that will allow my users to download apps without also allowing them do download potentially bad and untested patches.

  • Hi Tech_SR,

Windows 10 now added the Windows Store for Business management in Enterprise, please take a look:

    Windows Store for Business overview

    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt606938(v=vs.85).aspx

Add soem reference about store management in Windows 8.1:

    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh832040.aspx

I am not sure whether SCCM would allow Windows Store to download updates, if this is possible, then we may take a look at the related group policy settings:
