Posibilit yto use corporate SQL server machine with default instance instead of \MAPS instance ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

We use central SQL2008 R2 Enterprise server and I was told, that no "new" instance cannot be installed on it without serious reasons (we use it for LOB apps). With WSUS I had no problem to install it to DB on default instance, but with MAP I hit the ground. Spinning up local SQL Express looks also inconvenient (additional WU, additional memory).

Is there a way to change the instance to another one ?

  • I’m sorry, but it is not possible to run MAP on a default instance.  You can use your existing SQL Server, but a non-default instance called MAPS is required.
