Windows Server 2016 TP5 - Internet Explorer 11 crashes when downloading Excel spreadsheets (PDFs, etc. are fine) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Can others reproduce this as well?  I ended up rolling back to TP4 because this is a show-stopper for the primary application that I work with.

  • Hi,

I tested your download link in my Windows Server 2016 TP5 lab and it downloaded properly in IE without crash.

  • What Excel are you using? I just opened an Excel spreadsheet via OneDrive using the online Excel and it worked with no issue.

  • Hi,

    Thanks for your post.

As far as I know, you are the first one to report this kind of issue. In order to help you on it in a more efficient manner, would you please describe more details about your operation and behavior so that we can do some test for you? Some screenshots are appreciated.

Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.

  • Thanks for the responses, guys.  When IE 11 crashes when attempting to download an Excel spreadsheet, the following error is seen in the Event Log:

    Update Versions:  11.0.31

Excel Version:  Microsoft Excel 2016 MSO 16.0.4266.1003 32-bit

This is reproducible for me with a fresh install of TP5.  Excel downloads work fine in Edge and Chrome, it's just IE11 that is crashing for me.

A small, sample Excel spreadsheet to test downloading:  http://www.sample-videos.com/xls/Sample-Spreadsheet-10-rows.xls
