Download IE 8 issue RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have windows vista.  Because of a virus my pc had to be put back to the way it was when I first purchased the it.  I am running IE 7, but want to upgrade to IE 8.  I have downloaded SP1 and SP2, and all updates that I can find.  When I try to update to IE8 it seems to go through but then I get a message....IE IS NOT SUPPORTED ON THIS OPERATION SYSTEM.  Can someone please tell me what this means and what I need to do?

  • Hi,

Do a Windows Update AGAIN.... and choose any optional updates for device drivers or Direct X updates...

    then go to http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/internet-explorer-8-details.aspx

Make sure you choose the IE8 version for VISTA, not XP or Win7....

If you computer has a x64 processor choose the x64 version of the download.

Once IE8 is installed. the next Windows update you do will offer IE9 to be installed through Windows Update... Allow it to update as many popular websites will no longer support IE8 or lower.

Post consumer questions about IE to http://answers.microsoft.com (Help>Online Support menu from IE)... Include the links to any website you are having problems with your questions.

    Thx.
