Can DPM protect Windows Server 2008 Domain Controllers? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Can DPM 2010 natively backup Windows Server 2003/2008 domain controllers (the AD database) or does it require manual backups with the Windows Server Backup utility, wbadmin or ntbackup (in the case of 2003)?

I cannot find any documentation on how to backup domain controllers with DPM 2010? Any links or resources?

  • Hello,

Yes, DPM 2010 does backup AD as either part SystemSatte or MBR protection.  It does leverage Windows backup, and requires you to restore Systemstate using Windows backup once the RP is restored to the server.
