Slow Printer Redirection (Easy Print) when using RD Web Access and RD Gateway RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have two servers one having RD Web Access and RD Gateway role installed and ther other having RD Session Host server role installed. All are running Windows Server 2008 R2 with SP1.

All my LAN users use RD Web access. Printer redirection is quickly happening when LAN users are printing through RemoteApp applications. But the Easy Print printer redirection is very very slow while accessing RD Web Access over the internet with a good bandwidth internet connection. I got the same experience while printing through all my VSAT sites. The printer redirection is very very slow. It is taking 10 mins to redirect the printers in addition to printing the job in the redirected printer. Bypass RD Gateway for local addresses is selected in RemoteApp manager. On the RD Gateway Server, IIS is configured to use the TSDefaultgateway i.e. the hostname of the RD Gateway server.

Request your help in this regard.

  • Hi,

According to your description, please check your printer driver, update to the latest version in the client PC and Terminal Server.

It’s takes about 10 Minutes to print a  page with Easy Print,  please check the event viewer in both server and client whether any error or alarms in the event log.

You can disabled use Easy Print first in Group Policy to test whether the same issue still exists.

By default, a Windows Server 2008 Terminal server first tries to use the Terminal Services Easy Print driver. If the client computer does not support this driver, the terminal server looks for a matching printer driver installed on the terminal server. You can either install a matching printer driver on the terminal server, or you can create a custom printer mapping file.

You can using Group Policy settings for Printer Redirection:

Policy settings in this node control printer configuration for Terminal Services sessions.

The full path of this node in the Group Policy Management Console is:

    Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Terminal Services\Terminal Server\Printer Redirection

    More information:

    Printer Redirection

Using Terminal Services Easy Print Driver

Please also upgrade your Remote Desktop Connection 7 in your Windows XP

When you complete the configuration, you can try it again to see whether same issue still exists.
