Server 2016 - The following Domain Controller could not be contacted "The interface is unknown"

  • I am in the process of converting the network from 2008R2 AD to 2016 AD.

    First I did adprep, everything was ok, successful.

    I added the 2016 Server as a Domain Controller, everything is ok.

    Now I'm trying to migrate the FSMO roles over to it, but every time I try.  I get the message when trying to connect to it in "Active Directory Domains and Trust" "could not contact DC the interface is down"

    Or the other message is PDC Emulator is down.

    Thanks in advance, anybody got any ideas?

    or should I call Microsoft for $400?

    Thank You!!!

  • Did you patch 2016 fully before hand? An unedited ipconfig /all of both may also help.

  • Hi

     First check necessary ports already accessible between these 2 dc,and you can check this with PortQryUI;

    Then run "netdom query fsmo","dcdiag","repadmin /replsum" and share the results for analyse..
