Outlook Search function. Making local search first RRS feed

  • Question

  • Ever since Outlook was configured to communicate to the server first on a search request vs looking at the local mailboxes first it has gotten maddening slow.  Even worse if the network connection if poor such as foreign WIFI or cellular. I am to the point of considering moving away from Outlook to another platform .

Is there a way to force Outlook to look locally first?

  • Hi Kim,

To force Outlook to utilize local search first, you can add the following registry key:

(Important Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it.)

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Search
    REG_DWORD: DisableServerAssistedSearch
    Value: 1

    Hope this helps.

  • Dear Kim,

Any update here? Have you tried creating the registry key to see the result?
