Error in Content Editor Web Part RRS feed

  • Question

  •  The issue was that if you tried to add the web part to any page in Team or Publishing site, it resulted in error message:Unable to add selected Webpart

    Content editor Web part: An error has occured

    Updating the existing CEWP in any page was not possible as well. When we tried to update any settings/configuration of the CEWP it resulted in blank page and upon refreshing the page the updates would fly away.

    We load balanced out a single front end server and rebooted. The issue is not recurring now, but we need to find some root cause and try to remove the root cause.

    The log file shows this entry for this:

    Failed to add webpart http%253A%252F%252F%252Ecpr%252Eca%252F%255Fcatalogs%252Fwp%252FMSContentEditor%252Edwp;Content%2520Editor%2520Web%2520Part.  Exception System.Exception: Cannot create XmlSerializers for this Web Part.     at Microsoft.SharePoint.WebPartPages.TypeCacheEntry.CheckFailedEntry(XmlSerializer& xmlSerializer)     at Microsoft.SharePoint.WebPartPages.TypeCacheEntry.get_XmlSerializerPersonal()     at Microsoft.SharePoint.WebPartPages.WebPart.WriteXmlPersonal(Boolean disableSafeControlsCheck)     at Microsoft.SharePoint.WebPartPages.BinaryWebPartSerializer.Serialize(PersonalizationScope scope)     at Microsoft.SharePoint.WebPartPages.BinaryWebPartSerializer.get_UserData()     at Microsoft.SharePoint.WebPartPages.SPWebPartManager.AddWebPartToStore(WebPart webPart, Int32...

    Any pointers/suggestions on this would be really appreciated.

    Hi gfrgr,

    It seems that your content editor web part is broken on your system. You can delete it and add it again.

    1. Site Actions->Site Settings->Modify All Site Settings->Galleries->Web parts->Please delete MSContentEditor.dwp .
    2. Restart services of SharePoint(Windows SharePoint Services Web Application, Windows SharePoint Services Search, Office SharePoint Server Search )
    3. Site Actions->Site Settings->Modify All Site Settings->Galleries->Web parts->New->Please add Microsoft.SharePoint.WebPartPages.ContentEditorWebPart </label><//label>.

    If the problem is still, may be you can repair your SharePoint.

    Thanks,

    Jack
