Unable to modify protection group RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello All,

I having an issue with DPM 2010 on windows 2008 R2 x64. I was trying to modify a protection which I used for backing up Hyper-V guests. I was trying to modify the protection group and changed short term protection from Tape to Disk and proceed with applying the changes. While applying DPM cosole crashed with error saying it lost the connecton to DPM and need to close.

Now the issues with me is that I am unable to modify that protection group anymore. Even if I try to stop protection it failing with error code 197 saying removing Backup failed. Is there any way to remove the protection group?

    Thanks

  • Hi

You can do this via PowerShell. Here's a link to some powershell commands: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff631926.aspx

  • Hello,

If you are unable to stop protection or remove the protection group then there should be something in the MSDPMCurr.errlog on the DPM server.
Try to stop protection one more time, then get the MSDPMCurr.errlog. Look at the very bottom of the log for the name of the PG in question.
Copy and paste the relevant section in this forum.  There maybe some indication in that log as to what is going on.

    Thanks
