Install latest montly rollup and security update instead of installing all older updates. RRS feed

  • Question

    • We have another site whic has internet access limited. So all client computer windows udpates are turned off.
    • Since there is ransome wanncry issue, they will apply the needed update pack manually.
    • https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4011466/windows-7-sp1-windows-server-2008-r2-sp1-update-kb4012215
    • From this site, check that there are two newer update in this month.
      2017-05 Monthly Rollup - KB4019264
      2017-05 Security-only update - KB4019263
    • Can we install these two update only instead of install all older one? Will it include update-kb4012215 which fix smb issue? Please advise

    Your thought is correct, we can just install some monthly rollup to replace previous all update packages.

    Besides, one thing we need to know, security only update is contained in monthly rollup update, once we installed monthly rollup update, we don’t need to/cannot install security update, that is to say, once we installed 4019264, we no longer needed to install 4019263.

    Finally, in my opinion, you could just install kb4019264, if it fails, try to install all three monthly rollup updates, 4012215, 4015549, 4019264, one by one.
