Windows 10- 1511 to 1607 upgrade

    Question

  • Hi ,

We've customized Windows 10 1511 CBB and removed all extra applications like Candycrush, Xbox etc. Now how can we make sure customization are not affected when we upgrade these machines from 1511 to 1607.

    Thanks,

    Ashok

Do not use WSUS. Do not use the download ISO. Use a custom installation
again. Create your own WIM, integrate it into the ISO files, replace
"install.wim" and run "setup /auto upgrade"

... or use MDT/SCCM to deploy the default WIM and customize it while
updating. Or use WSUS ... and customize it later on by scripts.

  • Thanks Mark. Looks like good idea. Will test it tomorrow.

  • Hi,

I agree with Mark, since the WSUS upgrade and clean ISO will both install the XBOX and such application you would like to remove.

The customized the image file would be the most suitable way to realize what you would like.

  • Hi Kate & MArk,

We've replaced the install.wim with customised install.wim file. When we try to run setup.exe, it failing with below error. Please guide.

"Setup has failed to validate the product Key"

Note: 1511 is already activated using KMS server.

    Thanks,

    Ashok
