software restriction policy office 2013/2016 files/outlook attachment can't open

    General discussion

  • Hi,

I have small problem when I on software restriction policy (Crytolocker prevent).

On PC with Office 2013/2016 (outlook) I can't open office files. In outlook I don't have any communicate/error but in explorer i gets this message "Word experienced an error traying to open the file". I know i can unlock file but first i must save file from outlook and next unlock file. In word, excel... i add in trusted location c:\ and subfolders. and turn on preview in outlook.

    %AppData% Path Disallowed
    %AppData%\* Path Disallowed
    %LocalAppData% Path Disallowed
    %ProgramData% Path Disallowed
    %TEMP% Path Disallowed
    %TMP% Path Disallowed
    %UserProfile% Path Disallowed

    C:\Windows\Temp Path Disallowed

    %HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ProgramFilesDir% Path Unrestricted
    C:\Program Files (x86) Path Unrestricted
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office Path Unrestricted
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office Path Unrestricted
    C:\Program Files\WindowsApps Path Unrestricted

I also add to policy (it's not in ss) location to outlook temp (unrestricted).

Why software restricted policy block office files in explorator and outlook? On O2007/2010 all works fine.

  • Try specifying the path in it's entirety for Office 2013 or Office 2016. I managed to get my SRP policies working by specifically allowing. It seems that SRP has a hard time with the way Outlook 2013 calls the sister programs.

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\office15\WINWORD.exe

    and etc...

Kind of a late reply and sorry about that but figured it might help someone in the future having the same problem.
