  • Hello,

1> Check the network first. Check the firewall, Ping, Proxy, DNS, etc.
2> On the affected clients, try to browse the following URL.
          http://yourwsusserver.admin.local:8530/selfupdate/wuident.cab
Is there a prompt for file downloading?
3> Try run following scripts in the elevated CMD on the affected clients. Leave them for a while and check the results.

    net stop bits
    net stop wuauserv
    reg delete "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate" /v AccountDomainSid /f
    reg delete "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate" /v PingID /f
    reg delete "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate" /v SusClientId /f
    reg delete "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate" /v SusClientIDValidation /f
    rd /s /q "C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution"
    net start bits
    net start wuauserv
    wuauclt /resetauthorization /detectnow
    usoclient.exe startscan

Hope my answer could help you and look forward to your feedback.

  • Just as an FYI:

/detectnow is deprecated and does not work in Windows 10. Windows 10 has replaced it with: PowerShell.exe (New-Object -ComObject Microsoft.Update.AutoUpdate).DetectNow() or UsoClient.exe StartScan

/reportnow has a special use case and doesn't do anything at any other points in time unless it's within this use case (after /detectnow runs, there's a 20 minute 'cool down' period before it reports back to the WSUS Server. If /reportnow is run within this 20 minute period AND there is something flagged to report, it will report immediately. Otherwise, the detection process will report after 20 minutes regardless - so this is basically useless in almost all cases).

  • You may also want to delete the computer objects from the WSUS Console before running the above client side script.

  • Hello,

    Glad to hear it works.

Yes, it needs to run on the each affected clients. You could save it and run it on each client as an Immediate Task with GPO. Note that it needs to run with administrative rights.

    Refer to the following article.

  • Hello,

If a client cannot get the cab file while others could, there must be some connectivity issue between the client and the WSUS server.

Try to find out and fix it.
