I'm deploying a WSUS server in a vlan separate from my clients. I need to know if I require firewall rules to and from the vlans in order for WSUS to communicate with the clients. ie vlan A <-> vlan Bp>
WU/WSUS traffic is all http/https via ports 80/443/8530/8531 (depending upon your implementation), including client->server, and server->MSFT
The WSUS server, never contacts clients, so you don't need to worry about traffic in that direction.
In a typical VLAN implementation (without any firewall software or appliance), there is no need to configure any specific 'permit' rules, because VLANs do not filter traffic at all in any way.
Don [doesn't work for MSFT, and they're probably glad about that ;]
