  • Question

  • I am a facilitator for a major university and I have a student who is submitting work that I believe is not her work and is being completed by a hired tutor.  Every one of the Microsoft Word documents that she submits has a hired tutor's name as the "Last Saved" name in Properties.  What does this term "last saved" indicate?  Is this the last person who opened the document and edited it and saved it, or could the name listed as "last saved" have nothing to do with the person's name listed there?  Is the person whose computer is being used listed there, or is it the last editor to make changes to the document?

I hope I am clear.  Thank  you,

    Mike Baker

  • Hi, The name of the user who edited the document last will be shown in the last saved property, that cannot be changed. Kind regards, Leon

  • Thanks Leon. Can the name listed as last saved, in this case, the tutors name, be changed represent someone other than the last person who saved the file. Or is that name always going to be the name of the person whose computer is running the Microsoft word program that last saved or edited the document? Thanks again, Mike

  • Hi, Date Last Saved is a file property handled by Microsoft Word itself. When you save the file with Microsoft Word, it will update that value. Last Date Modified is handled based on the filesystem that you are using, probably NTFS. It is a property on every file in NTFS, and the NTFS filesystem determines what to set that value to and when to set it. Kind regards, Leon
