  • How about this?
    1. disabling Windows Defender
    2. disabling/stop 3rd party security software

  • I have one time only successfully run the media creation tool and used the ISO file produced to perform a clean windows 10 install on a different system.  I want to run it again but now get the 0x80072f76-0x20017   error from the same system I used before.

Happens with Chrome and Edge, with or without running the exe as an administrator. Baffled

  • So i was having the same problem and researched many forums and this is what i ended up doing to get it to work for me.  I am using a 32GB flash drive to create the tool for another computer that was wiped out while doing a factory reset.

    Have McAfee anti-virus

Disabled all anti-virus, windows defender turned off, used microsoft edge, downloaded straight to the flash drive.

    Worked perfectly!

Thank you everyone for all the suggestions and the help.  Hope these steps help as well.

I would like to second this. I tried multiple times and got errors with other methods. Doing all of these things made it work correctly the first time.
