Apps in SharePoint 2013

  • Hello Forum

Followed this guide to setup the App for SharePoint: (can't create the link as the point)

When I try to PING it responds fine.

Then I added the free Corporate news app from the SP online store.

When I try to use the App it fails: "The webpage cannot be found"

So it can't resolve the: Apps-12345678ABCDEF part

The Subscription Settings and App Management service applications are created and the services are running.

What am I missing?  - IIS binding or?

    Thanks in advance :)

  • Hi Mike,

I believe "" is the app domain that you have configured pointing to your SharePoint server(in case of On-Premises Apps configuration).

Try to ping, wherein 123 would indicate unique ID for apps.

If you do not receive ping response for above then it seems to be issue with App domain configuration.

Mark as answer if above is helpful.

  • Hi Mike,

Please check the Trust Level settings for App configuration.

You need to provide full trust to use the app.

  • I'm facing similar issues

Created a New zone '' - it also works on PING and reply's from the SP WFE Server

Then I've created a New SP WebApp with host '' and configured the App URLS to this App Domain:  App prefix: apps

The App Catalog has created a Site in the WebApp ''

So adding a free News App from the SP store to the App Catalog that's in the '' WebApp

From another WebApplication: http://Portal  - I can't see the added App nor can I add it - if I then add the "News" App to the Site that in the "" its added - but when I try to click on it, its URL fails:

Shouldn't I from the Portal see the Apps that are Added in the so the Portal utilize the JMApps portal instead of the Online store?

  • found this one:

"We can't set this app domain because no wildcard binding exists for the default port of this web application. We need a port specified for the app domain in order to create a new wildcard"

Update - don't set host in creating the New WebApp HostApp

I now got it working - only issue is that I'm prompted for login when accessing the http://portal (calling the App) after credentials are input the app shows fine

  • Hi Mike,

You need to ping “” instead of “” to see if the IP address returned is the SharePoint server.

Did you configure the app URLs in Central Administration? If not, please check the Configure the app URLs to use part in the link below:

If you have modified the app prefix, please do the steps below to make the changes work:

      1. Stop the SharePoint Timer service.
      2. Restart the World Wide Web Publishing Service that hosts the apps.
      3. Start the SharePoint Timer service.

If above setting is right, please check ULS log for more detailed error message for further research. You can also test another app for narrowing down the issue scope.

    Best Regards,
