Script or executable failed to run RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello, we are running System Center Essentials 2007 SP1, and are running into a few problems. When I view the list of computers we are monitoring, I have 14 workstations out of a total of 42 that are giving me this error message.

SCE2007 SP1 is running on a quad CPU xeon machine with 2gb of ram

Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Edition x64

Script or executable failed to run

    Code Snippet

Forced to terminate the following process started at 8:13:27 AM because it ran past the configured timeout 30 seconds.

    Command executed: "C:\WINDOWS\system32\cscript.exe" /nologo "CheckWUAgentConfig.vbs" SVRNAME REMOVED
Working Directory: C:\Program Files\System Center Operations Manager 2007\Health Service State\Monitoring Host Temporary Files 13\1571\

One or more workflows were affected by this.

    Workflow name: Microsoft.SystemCenter.Essentials.CheckWUAgentConfigMonitor

    Instance name: FQDN

    Instance ID: {8077CBAF-75D6-FD43-0A83-212F951B505D}

    Management group: GROUP NAME REMOVED

Also, this may or may not be related, but on the main screen under "computers" where it shows the pie charts if I click on the link that says "x amount of computers with installations in progress" I get the following error message.

    Code Snippet
"can not intialize report, and error has occured during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)"

Note: The following information was gathered when the operation was attempted. The information may appear cryptic but provides context for the error. The application will continue to run.

Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.ReportServerException: An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted) ---> Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.ReportServerException: Cannot create a connection to data source 'WSUSDatabase'. • Hi,

TCrowell is right, McAfee sometimes causes "Script or executable failed to run" error. If you are using some other AntiVirus software, please also try uninstalliing it for a test.

As to the report error, and it cannot used to uodate agents, it seems that the database or the connection got some problems.

Did you install SCE on a new server or upgrade from WSUS 2.0? What's the version of the SQL server? Are you able to use the account you have removed to query the SUSDB in Management Studio?

Did you login as a domain administrator, which should also be a local administrator, when you running SCE 2007 console?

Are you using a remote database? If yes, are you using an account that is a local admin on the server that the SUSDB database is on?

    Thanks.

  • Hi Daniel,

The first issue, "Script or executable failed to run", is not a big problem. If there are not too many of them, just ignore the alerts, which is a known bug that may be fixed in the future version.

The second issue, "can not intialize report", can you visit "http://localhost/Reports$SCE" with IE if you are using the built-in SQL Express? (If you are using a dedicated full SQL install, please visit "http://localhost/Reports")

Please check if the default website is running and properly configured, especially the security settings. Make sure you can access to the report virtual directory.

    Thanks.

    I just cehcked "http://localhost/Reports"

The default website is up and running, and I do have access to the virtual directory.

My main concern with these errors, is that the computers are not getting the updates pushed out and/or installed via SCE/WSUS

Which is kind of a pain, seeing as one of the main reasons we deployed this is so we wouldn't have to manually update each pc, at this point it is easier t odo it that way than it has been trying to resolve the issue.

  • Hello,

we had this issue and it turned out to be the AV software...

We were using McAfee and it was causing all scripts to fail.

    We switched to FFCS!

    ALL FIXED!

    Good luck
