    Is it possible to set user permissions to sections of a document for example a Word document in SharePoint?

    You can use Word's Editing Restrictions to limit which users can edit a given portion of a document. See under Developer|Restrict Editing>Editing Restrictions [No Changes (Read only])>Exceptions.
