Windows Server 2008 R2 Updates Error 2147549183 Catastrophic Failure RRS feed

    All updates (manual and automatic) are failing on a Windows 2008 R2 server with the following error:

    "Security update for (KB#####) could not be installed because of error 2147549183 "Catastrophic failure".  The BITS and Windows Update services are running.  Installed the System Readiness Tool, deleted all references (directories and registry keys) to Windows Update, confirmed ports 80 & 443 are open, and finally ran chkdsk /f /r.  Updates had been installing prior to an upgrade from SQL Express to SQL Server 2008 R2.

    Hi,

    Please try to download and install the update manually. If the installation is failed, this issue is not caused by the WSUS. Please try to check the CBS log. It may give some hints.

    If the installation succeeds, please post the windowsupdate.log here, it may tell us why the client fails to get update from WSUS server.
