Disabling Wireless Network Adapter on Windows 7 via GPO

    Question

  • Hello TechNet,
    I put together a PS script to disable a wireless adapter on a Windows 7 Desktop through PowerShell.

    Clear-Host
    $Wifi = Get-WmiObject win32_networkadapter –ComputerName LocalHost –filter “DeviceID = 11”
    $Wifi.disable()

    The Problem:
    I'd like to deploy this script or similar via group policy so all desktops will check for a network adapter with the word "Wireless" in the name and disable it. It would be even better if I didn't have to use a PowerShell script. The current script is setup to only disable deviceID 11, which I'm confident is not the same for all wireless adapters on desktops.

    Has anyone used a similar filter script or GPO to search for specific words, such as "Wireless," and being able to disable the adapter through Group Policy?

    Thanks in advanced!

    -Jake
