Error Creating ACL - Initial FS4SP Install on Admin Server RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am in the process of installing and configuring Fast Search for ShaePoint 2010 in our Testing environment and I am running into the following errors on the Post-setup Configuration.  I am logged into the administrative server using the FAST Service account and I am executing the wizard as Administrator.  Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi,

Trying to figure out what is being installed at C:\Program Files\" during post-setup or if you have specified a different install folder for FS4SP. If it had been a sub-folder I could have understood it. In what folder are you installing FS4SP?

    Thanks,
    Mikael Svenson

  • Mikael,

Thanks for your response.  I ended up uninstalling FAST and ensuring that it was installed at the root of C:/.  After that, the configuration for the Administrative server completed successfully.  Thank you.

Now I am having problems with the non-admin servers.  For some reason, when I try to run the Configuration Wizard on those servers, I get the following errors:

  • Hi,

Have you checked if the middleware.cfg file is present, and that it's readable in a text editor?

Also, are you installing on hardened OS's?

    Thanks,
    Mikael Svenson

  • Mikael,

The middleware.cfg file that it is trying to reference is not on the non-admin server.  Does this indicate that there was a problem with the initial install?  Can I just copy the middleware.cfg file from the Admin server over to the non-admin server?

  • Hi,

My guess is something did not go 100% during install on the non-admin server, and I would do a re-install and configure. Might be other files missing as well. I haven't seen this in particular, but I have experienced the installer saying all is good, even though it failed. Especially on the pre-reqs, which can mess up other things.

    Thanks,
    Mikael Svenson

  • Mikael,

Do I need to uninstall FAST on all of the servers (including Admin).  I uninstalled FAST on the non-admin servers, re-ran the prerequisite installer, and reinstalled FAST.  The middleware.cfg file is still not there.  Any ideas?

  • Hi,

Take a look at this short blog post:

    http://koenvosters.wordpress.com/2011/03/17/error-the-file-c-fastsearch-etc-middlewarecfg-was-not-found/

    • You specified the wrong Base Port.
    • You did not configure your firewall properly to open up the necessary ports.
    • You forgot to reboot your admin server. To make sure that FAST is running properly, use nctrl status on the admin machine.

Also see this post: http://brulan.wordpress.com/category/fast/ a bit down the page. Same error and possible resolution.

    Thanks,
    Mikael Svenson
