Removing SCCM Client from servers RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All.  Due to licensing issues we must completely remove the SCCM client from any server in our environment (excluding SCCM Site servers).  Can I run a SCCM advert to uninstall this, or would some other method be required?  I want a FULL removal of all SCCM components so no traces remain.  I believe in SMS, even if you remove the SMS client it would still leave SMS MP info on the computer and setup files, etc.

Whats the best way to go about this?

  • I would run an advert with this command line. ccmsetup.exe /uninstall

Don't forget to change the working directory to the ccmsetup directory.

    Thanks Garth!

Will the '/uninstall' switch also remove registry entries, or any other remnant SCCM program or setup files?  Will it leave MP info anywhere, etc.

Also, some of these systems are x64 bit versions of Windows server and x86.  So the SCCM Clients are installed in different paths depending on the O/S.  Is there a 'ccmsetup' directory variable to cover both situations when the uninstall runs?  i.e. %ccmsetup%\ or the like.

  • The uninstall was run on many servers two months ago.  However while the client 'Computer Managment' is gone from Add/Remove programs, on some servers the SMS Agent Host is still present and running.  Is a server reboot required to remove the service?

  • A reboot is not required. See ccmsetup.log for details about the uninstall.
