Are Custom SPN's required ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello;

    We are currently trying to fix our kerberos setup. We are using a medium server farm with 2 wfe's 1 app and 1 sql cluster.

    Our problem seems to be communication between servers. We have triple checked configurations, run the stsadm commands etc.. I also ran a query against the sharepoint DB which told me kerberos is being used. The problem still seems to be when a WFE tries to access the APPS server that the services run on. The same thing happens if I run the service on all servers.

    but then I saw this article suggesting that you need to use custom spn's in sharepoint 2007 in order to make it work right.

    Here is the article. The section I am referring to is titled "Configure your SSP Infrastructure for Keberos authentication".

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263449.aspx#section4

    Do you need to use custom SPN's? I think this is why we are seeing 401 errors when FE1 tries to access APPS

    thanks!
