Hyper-V VHDX Shrink / Resize Process RRS feed

  • Question

  • Running a 4-node Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V Cluster.  Have an Exchange 2010 VM with three separate VHDX files for OS/Apps, Logs (200GB), and Databases (500GB).  All mailboxes are in Office 365 and just using the Exchange server as a relay for internal notification relay until it can be phased out.

Have shrunk the Log and Database volumes from within the virtual server, but I'm unable to shrink the VHDX files after shutting the server down.

Within the OS, the Log volume shows 237GB free of 242GB, and the Database volume shows 195GB free of 199GB.

Would like to know how to shrink the VHDX Log file size from 200GB to 50GB and the VHDX Database file size from 500GB to 100GB.

This may be the wrong forum, but I didnt see a Hyper-V forum in the list.
