Delete emails on User's Deleted Items folder via Exchange shell RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, Guys.

Need your assistance on how to delete emails on User's deleted items folder via Exchange shell.

In Outlook/OWA, we couldn't delete the emails in user's Deleted Items folder and give us an error as per below:

Some items can't be deleted. They were either moved or already deleted, or access was denied.

    Thank you.

  • There's nothing in the shell that I'm aware of that'll fix this issue.  You could have corruption in the mailbox, something that might fix that is to move the mailbox to a different mailbox database, be sure to use the New-MoveRequest -BadItemLimit switch.

  • Hi,

Besides, try the following several methods.

    1.    Created a sub-folder under delete items folder, dragged and dropped the offending emails into it. Then access the subfolder and try to delete the emails.

    2.    For some reason, when user delete some messages from the deleted items folder, the messages were not able to move to the mailbox's Recoverable Items folder. Run the following command to clean it out, then try to delete messages from their Deleted Items folder.

    Search-mailbox -identity userid -SearchDumpsterOnly -DeleteContent

    3.    Another option is to export his mailbox to a PST. Delete and recreate a new empty mailbox, and then import the PST data.

    Best Regards.
