Update on "DPM error: The VHD containing the replica or one of it's snapshots could not be mounted or unmounted. (ID 40002)" RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

We are running DPM 2019 on Windows Server 2016 and we experience multiple VHD related errors as per the announcement on the forum and as such performed the mitigation, multiple times to increase the memoryperhost value, which has reduced the number of recovery point creation and sync errors on the server, however it is preventing multiple crucial backups and we have to regularly restart the server to resolve it.

If it makes a difference, in the event log the error reported by Hyper-V-VMMS is "The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process"

My question is, what is the actual solution and if it is Update Rollup 1, when the hell is it coming out Microsoft, it's nearly mid-November and still no update?

We pay Microsoft lots of money for our licensing agreement, yet we'd have to pay to get support for a very dysfunctional product, which I think is wrong and very dis-appointing.

Please sort DPM 2019 out Microsoft, otherwise we WILL be forced to look else where next year for a backup solution as this is abysmal.

    Many thanks,
