  • i downloaded windows vista home basic from a cd\dvd it also told me after instalation that i will need to activate. Now it tells me my product key is invalid and i need a new product key when i want to activate. what must i do i dont have the cd anymore and im far from town and dont have money to take it in for repairs.

    I’m confused – and I suspect that you are also.
    You don’t ‘download’ from a cd/dvd – you INSTALL from a cd/dvd.
    From what I can make out, you appear to have installed some kind of version of Windows Vista – and have now been asked (as is everyone) to activate this installation.
    for ALL cases of potential problems with activation and validation, we need the following...
    To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
    Once saved, run the tool.
    Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
    To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
