Cannot launch Azure Backup Server console, getting error "MMC has stopped working"

  • Hi, we have been running an online recovery until we had to cancel it since it was almost business hours and it was slowing down the network.  After a while it popped up with an error "MMC stopped working.." and it has been doing that whenever we try to open the MABS console.   Here's the error details from the event log and can't seem to find any cases from the internet referring to "root element is missing". 

    --> The description for Event ID 999 from source MSDPM cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.
    If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.
    The following information was included with the event:
    An unexpected error caused a failure for process 'mmc'.  Restart the DPM process 'mmc'.

    the message resource is present but the message is not found in the string/message table
