Guid in the <PublishingWebControls:RichImageField> RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I need to know why does the <PublishingWebControls:RichImageField> has the GUID in the fieldname property?

Is that like "ID" should show this GUID and FieldName should show name ?

    <PublishingWebControls:RichImageField FieldName="69f6f23e-c8ce-4c90-97c1-1e033a2cb9bd" runat="server"></PublishingWebControls:RichImageField>

The field name is different in the Site Content Type(eg: Product Image). It shows different in the aspx code when use that field from the toolbox.

    Suggest please.

    Regards, Nayan

  • Hello Nayan,

This is actually the GUID of your site column (Product Image). However, you can use the actual name of the field also.

FieldName="Product Image" (instead of GUID) will also work properly.

  • Hi Ram,

This happens automatically when I drag-drop the required field in my page.

Ideally shouldn't it show the name itself? Or is there any problem with my SPD/content types/contenttypes.xml file?

Actually its the same on all the page layouts that I've created.

    Please suggest.

  • nayanam:

NEVER go to another thread and ask people there to answer your question in a different thread (as you did for this thread).

It wastes everyone's time including mine.

This one is your thread with this question and ONE thread is enough.

  • Hello Nayan,

Yes, this is the normal behavior of SPD. There is nothing wrong.

When you drag and drop the site column, the GUID of the field gets inserted in the FieldName property. This happens in all the layouts for the site column. ( A site column column will have a GUID and it will be same across all the layouts).

As I said in my earlier reply, you can use the actual Field name as well instead of GUID (Product Image in your case).
