External Dependency Links between Server Instances RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have 2 project server 2010 instances, let's call them A and B.  Instance A has all progress tracking done by timesheet actuals.  Instance B tracking is done by percent complete.  I would like to have an external predecessor link on a milestone in Instance B tied to a milestone task in Instance A.  Is this possible?  If so, please show me the syntax required for both project plans.

Both instances are using Project Server 2010, SP1, patched up to October 2012 CU.  We are running on SQL 2012.

    Thanks!

I believe that this is impossible due to the security model. It would mean one request would have to be valid across two systems. I think you need a third-party add in to accomplish this by brokering the information between the two systems.

  • Gary,

Thanks for your quick response.  I see how this would be an issue.  I don't like to put in 3rd party components since they can cause issues when upgrades of Project are required.

If I have both projects in the same instance, but have 2 different project "owners" can I have the cross-project link dependencies?  If so, how would that be done since each project has a different "owner"?
