safely stop DPM services and jobs RRS feed

  • Question

  • How can I safely stop DPM (or its services? why I am asking this is because windows update has just downloaded and setup new updates on the  R2 where I have hyper-V. There are currently some DPM jobs running when I check the "Monitoring".

On the machine where hyper-v is setup it is asking me to reboot, I know that I can postpond it but I need to reboot as and finish with it as I will be out of office starting 12H00 until Monday and I am afraid that windows 2k8 will reboot alone and break DPM jobs.

Is there any command line to stop safely the services apart from Cancel

  • Rebotting DPM server when no job is running could be the safest way. For this you can cancell all running jobs should be sufficient but before restarting the make sure no other job gets started. For this close the UI and stop DPM services msdpm and dpmra using net stop msdpm and net stop dpmra. Then you can reboot the machines.
