How to build a collection to exclude members of another collection RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Greetings,

    I had the need to make a collection that excluded members of another collection. I needed to seperate several custom machines that I don't want to be updated by the SUP.  I had a really hard time trying to find and/or build a query that actually worked. After lots of web research and trial and error I now have a query that does the job. Since I can't be the only one that needs something like this I thought I would post it here.

    I'm using System Center Configuration Manager, Microsoft Corporation, Version: 4.00.6487.2000

    Select

    SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceID,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceType,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Name,

    SMS_R_SYSTEM.SMSUniqueIdentifier,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup,

    SMS_R_SYSTEM.Client from SMS_R_System where SMS_R_System.Client = 1 and

    SMS_R_System.ClientType = 1 and SMS_R_System.ResourceId not in

     (select ResourceID from SMS_CM_RES_COLL_XXXxxxxx)

    Replace the item in red with the Collection ID of the collection you are trying to exclude, which is located under the General tab of the properties window.

  • How right you are.  This topic comes up many times in the forums.  I even have it in my presentation for MMS 2010.
